AHCA's Screening Process

Initiate Screening

All screenings should be initiated in the Clearinghouse by an approved provider, in order to ensure the correct ORI number is used and results get transmitted to the appropriate department. 

Schedule Appointment

Book an appointment with an approved LiveScan vendor for your Level 2 background check, such as Jaytee Clinicians at a time and location that suits you. We offer flexible scheduling and mobile services to fit your needs.

Fingerprint Session

Our trained technicians will capture your fingerprints digitally using state-of-the-art LiveScan technology. The process is quick, taking just a few minutes.

Submit Fingerprints

Once your fingerprints are taken, we securely submit them to AHCA’s clearinghouse within 24-72 hours for processing. The clearinghouse performs the background check by cross-referencing the fingerprints with national databases such as the FBI and FDLE.

The Background Screening Unit reviews the Level 2 criminal history results for all background screenings submitted as part of the employment process for a health care provider and/or for participation as a provider in the Florida Medicaid program. All screenings that are received for employment purposes in an AHCA regulated facility are reviewed in accordance with Chapter 435 and section 408.809(4), Florida Statutes, and Rule 59A-35.090 and any screenings done for Medicaid are reviewed in accordance with Chapter 435, section 408.809(4) Florida Statutes, and Rule 59A-35.090 in order to make an eligibility determination.

Receive Results

After submission, results will be processed and available in the AHCA clearinghouse. Typically, the entire process from fingerprinting to results takes a few days, depending on the volume of requests.

Please note AHCA's Background Screening Units average processing times for reviewing these screenings is 5 to 7 business days once the results are received from FDLE.
